Basil has been a venture investor for the past 9 years. He started at Oak Investment Partners and joined Austin Ventures 6 years ago. He is interested in a wide variety of technologies that have disruptive potential, and often helps to start and incubate companies. Basil has recently been active in Data Center Equipment (Azul, Augmentix, Conformative [INTC], Copan, Egenera, and Newisys [SANM]), Semiconductors and Components (Alereon, Coldwatt, NetEffect, Stream Processors, and Sychip [Murata]) and in EDA/IP (Innovative Silicon, Nascentric and Pyxis). Basil is also interested in Consumer Devices (Broadband Instruments and Anthron) and Medical Imaging, as well as various clean technologies.

At Oak, Basil sourced and helped develop a number of successful Telecom projects (Springtide [LU], Telica [LU], and Coretek [NT]) and also helped manage a variety of Software and Services companies (Entevo [BVEW], Vicinity [MSFT], iMarket [DNB], TheStreet.com [TSCM], and Xelus [CKCM]). Basil spent his early career at McKinsey, Goldman Sachs, and a PhD program at the University of Chicago. He received his MBA from the University of Chicago and a Masters in Operations Research from MIT. He has undergraduate degrees in Computer Science and in Economics from MIT.
